Cyber Threats Looming Large
Internet was considered one of the greatest innovations of this Century which could beneficially transform the globe with instant communication. 3 decades after the invention of the Internet the dream of Internet being the instrument of prosperity is in the danger of being shattered by the threats lurking in the Cyber Space.
Cyber Crimes, Cyber Terrorisms and Cyber Warfare have made the life of Netizens a nightmare. Today every e-mail is a potential virus transmitter. Every webpage could have a potential Trojan. Every e-Commerce transaction may be a potential fraud. Every e-Banking transaction can end up in an e-robbery. Every credit card payment may result in an Identity Theft. Threats are end less. Add to this, the activities of Cyber Terrorists with unlimited resources and motivation and the Cyber Warfare with rogue nations promoting Cyber Crimes as a part of a build up for Cyber World Wars, the future looks grim.
What do we do to restore the dream of Cyber Space driving the prosperity of the physical globe? Do we sit back and wish that the threats would melt away? Or Do we take steps to come together and find solutions? Where else can action begin to fight the Cyber threats with an organized response except in Bangalore which is already known as the IT Capital of India and now racing to be the Information Security Capital?
Bangalore Cyber Security Summit - Second Edition is that event that provides a platform for all stake holders to come together, understand the emerging threats, identify solutions and create a road map of actionable activity matrix to frustrate the e-Underworld and restore the glory of the Cyber Space.
You are a Stakeholder in Protecting the Cyber Space
Ensuring the Security of our society either in the Physical world or the Cyber World requires coming together of all stake holders with a collaborative effort. The more divided we are, the easier for criminals to breakthrough. If a Netizen neglects to update his anti virus protection, If a School fails to provide Safe browsing for Children, If a Cyber Cafe fails to record its visitors, If an ISP forgets to store traffic data, we are helping the criminals to enter the Indian Cyber Space and play havoc.
When a Bank fails to protect its access with multifactor authentication, When an IT Company refuses to share its security breach incidents with the Police, when E-Governance fails to focus on Information Security, we are providing a fertile ground for Cyber Criminals to flourish. When Policy Makers fail to make appropriate regulations, when Law enforcement and Judiciary do not keep pace with the development of crimes, when Media and Educational institutions fail to spread appropriate awareness in the public, we allow the Criminals to take advantage.
When IT Companies fail to deliver appropriate security solutions to emerging technology threats, When users are forced to adopt technology with bugs and vulnerabilities, When Security is not a parameter for quality assessment of Products and Services in the It Sector, Cyber Criminals thrive on their technology advantage. We therefore need a coordinated effort from different stake holders.. Policy Makers, Legal and Law Enforcement Personnel as well as the It industry towards building a secure Cyber Society which is also a prerequisite to a Secure Physical Society.
Bangalore Cyber Security Summit - Second Edition is an International Event to focus on the Cyber Threats along with possible Solutions. Eminent speakers from different parts of India as well as a few from abroad will share their experiences on building a secure future for the society. IT Secretaries from different states, who are both law enforcers and e-governance promoters in the respective states are expected to attend in large numbers to contribute to the discussions.
Senior Police Officials, Directors of Prosecution as well as several members of the Judiciary will contribute their thoughts both as speakers and participants. Cyber Law Experts, Information Security specialists from the IT industry, members of the academia will also contribute to the churning of the ideas. Members of the public representing Cyber Cafes as well as sections of the society will also bring in their perspective to the deliberations during the summit. Together, the stakeholders will try to develop a road map of Cyber Security practices that will be sharpened in the subsequent years when the Bangalore Cyber Security Summit of 2010 and subsequent years roll out. This unique initiative promoted by the IT/BT Ministry of the Government of Karnataka is all set to be a platform on which India will drive towards Information Security leadership on the global platform.Be Sure to be part of this path breaking event.
